Season 2 of the Sultana Bran Hockey One League has been pushed back and will not begin as scheduled due to the current COVID situation in many parts of the country.
The second season of Australia’s premier domestic men’s and women’s hockey competition was set to start on 1 October and run until mid November.
However, the impact of COVID and ongoing border restrictions have disrupted plans for the season to realistically go ahead safely on its scheduled start date.
The season will not start until 29 October at the earliest, pending the evolving COVID landscape.
“As with all sporting and entertainment events, the effects of the ongoing pandemic have impacted our plans for the highly anticipated second season,” said Sultana Bran Hockey One League General Manager Tony Dodemaide.
“Disappointingly, it is clear to all teams and stakeholders that a start date of October 1st with expectation of an uninterrupted national competition, including freedom of interstate travel and attended events, is no longer realistic in the current environment.”
“Together with clubs, we are determined to deliver the second season of the league and are currently exploring all options to do so.”
“This rescheduling enables more time for the national and state government initiatives of virus suppression and vaccination roll-out to take effect. We will continue to monitor circumstances and adjust our plans accordingly.”
Further announcements will be made in due course.
Existing purchasers of team memberships and individual match tickets (where previously advertised) based on the original schedule will be contacted with details of available options.
