Season defining match ups highlight Round 5 of JDH Hockey One League

The race for spots in the all-important top four is heating up as Round 5 of the JDH Hockey One League 2023 Season gets underway tomorrow night with HC Melbourne hosting Brisbane Blaze.

With teams securing five points for a win and goal difference proving a decisive factor, things can change rapidly. Eight points currently separate first to fifth on both the women’s and men’s standings with three rounds to go in the regular season.

Tomorrow night’s double header between HC Melbourne and Brisbane Blaze pits teams in the top four against each other, the winners set to have one foot in the door of the Finals Main Event.

The HC Melbourne and Brisbane Blaze women’s teams have made four changes each to their line ups for the clash, while the men’s teams – who both recorded impressive wins last weekend – are unchanged.

On Saturday, NSW Pride Men can all but sew up a top two spot if they can defeat a Tassie Tigers outfit looking to consolidate their position in the top four.

The Pride have been bolstered by the return of captain Jack Hayes and Kookaburras duo Ky Willott and Flynn Ogilvie for the ‘Pride in Pride’ themed fixture at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre.

The Tigers have included Alex Hogan-Jones and goalkeeper Magnus McCausland as they attempt to inflict the Pride’s first loss of the season.

NSW Pride Women have named 28 year old Estelle Hughes and also welcome back Hockeyroos duo Jocelyn Bartram and Mariah Williams for the match against the winless Tassie Tigers Women who have brought in Emily Donovan and Madison Clark.

The undefeated Perth Thundersticks Women have the chance to go a game clear on top with a win over Adelaide Fire at MATE Stadium on Sunday.

On the flipside, it is a must win for Adelaide Fire if they are to have any chance of featuring at finals time.

Then it is a mini elimination final of sorts for Adelaide Fire and Perth Thundersticks Men to end the round as both sides aim to lift themselves into finals contention.
