A multitude of team changes across the JDH Hockey One League in Round 4 brings an added layer of intrigue as the 2023 season reaches the halfway point.
Every team has at least two changes to their line ups for this weekend as the inclusion of some of Australia’s best up and coming talent is set to light up pitches across the country.
Round 4 starts tomorrow night with Brisbane Blaze hosting the Tassie Tigers at the Queensland State Hockey Centre.
Coming off the bye and expecting another carnival atmosphere for their second home fixture, Brisbane Blaze’s women’s and men’s teams will be aiming to climb the ladder against Tassie Tigers teams who have had contrasting fortunes.
The Tassie Tigers Men’s team currently sit second, while the Women’s team is still searching for their first points of the season.
On Saturday attention turns to the national capital when Canberra Chill welcome NSW Pride.
Mikayla Evans and Sarah White have been added to the Chill Women’s team, while the Pride also have two notable inclusions with Hockeyroos duo Kaitlin Nobbs and Grace Stewart returning after missing last weekend’s shootout loss to HC Melbourne.
Canberra Chill’s Indian superstar Rupinder Pal Singh hit the scoreboard for the first time last weekend and he will be looking for more of the same against a NSW Pride Men’s team that notched up a record 11 goals last weekend.
The NSW Pride Men’s team has a markedly different look this Saturday though with six changes. Ryan Woolnough will make his debut, while veteran Tristan White comes back for his first Hockey One League match since lifting the trophy with the Pride in 2019.
Hockeyroos defender Karri Somerville will make her first appearance of the season for the Perth Thundersticks in their top of the table showdown against HC Melbourne on Sunday. Somerville will team up with fellow Hockeyroo Penny Squibb in the heart of the Thundersticks defence as both teams look to remain undefeated.
HC Melbourne Men have been impacted by the Burras’ participation in the Sultan of Johor Cup with four changes to their team to take on the Thundersticks. However, they have more than capable additions in the shape of Nathan Copey, Jayshaan Randhawa, Eden Davis and Nicholas Fitzgerald.
The Thundersticks’ attacking potency has been bolstered with the return of Round 1 hat-trick hero James Day and former Kookaburra sharpshooter Trent Mitton.
