2022 Women’s Perth Thundersticks squad revealed

A star-studded squad of 20 has been selected for the women’s Perth Thundersticks ahead of their 2022 Sultana Bran Hockey One League season which commences October 1.

The group, which can be tweaked in the final weeks of preparation in the lead-up to the competition, includes some of Australia’s highest-profile Olympic and Commonwealth Games stars as well as high-quality, proven performers at state and Premier League level.

Some of the stars named in the 2022 Perth Thundersticks women’s squad include Australian representatives Aleisha Power, Karri Somerville, Penny Squibb, Shanea Tonkin and Georgia Wilson.

Perth Thundersticks women’s coach Phil Hulbert is impressed by the depth of the group and acknowledged some challenging decisions that had to be made.

“Selections were very difficult for the final 20 and the strength of a squad can often be measured by who misses out,” Hulbert says,

“We believe we have a very competitive group. We are looking forward to continuing to train hard and hopefully enjoying a successful Hockey One season.”

Hockey WA’s General Manager – Performance and Development, Dean Evans, said the Hockey One League season was much anticipated.

“The women’s Perth Thundersticks squad is a strong group, and we’re really looking forward to seeing how they fare in the tournament,” Evans says.

“We want all of the hockey community from across the state to back our Thundersticks and get behind us throughout the campaign.

“We look forward to the squad continuing to challenge each other and improve in the lead-up to the tournament and wish Phil and the team all the best for the 2022 Sultana Bran Hockey One League season.”
