HC Melbourne Head Coaches announced

HC Melbourne is proud to announce our head coaches for Season Two of the Sultana Bran Hockey One League. Lachlan Anderson will lead the Men’s team while Phil Burrows will take on the role for the Women’s.

A successful inaugural season in 2019 of Australia’s new elite domestic Men’s and Women’s hockey league was followed by a two-year hiatus due to COVID. The coaches are rearing to go and ready to take on their roles to have a tilt at the title in season two.

Lachlan is looking forward to “getting back into it with the players, we have a great balance of mature players at this level as well as some rising stars coming through. It will be good to see how we go after a few seasons off. A lot has changed since this group last played.”

Anderson believes NSW Pride will be the team to beat in 2022, saying “traditionally we’ve had some tough games against NSW Pride. We will be doing everything we can to plan for that, with the aim of making the Grand Final this year.”

Lachlan is currently Camberwell HC Men’s Premier League coach and was assistant coach when the Victorian Vikings became back-to-back champions in 2017, so he knows the taste of success. While Burrows boasts an impressive list of achievements including being a 3x Olympian, 4x Comms Games athlete, NZ’s Blacksticks highest capped player & NZ’s highest goal scorer. Phil has been to 4 world cups, played in the Dutch league for 9 years

Burrows has been head Women’s coach of the VIS Women’s team, Assistant coach of the Blacksticks, and was HC Melbourne’s Assistant coach in Season 1. Phil believes HC Melbourne’s toughest opponent will be Brisbane Blaze.

“We always seem to have the biggest battles with QLD over the past few years, but I’m also sure that all teams will be preparing very well for the upcoming Hockey One season.”

HC Melbourne will kick off their season in late September. Memberships will be released shortly. Follow all the action on socials.
