What a way to start our 2023 JDH Hockey One campaign and title defense as both our women and men’s teams had emphatic wins over the Brisbane Blaze in Brisbane last Saturday night.
In front of a record Hockey One crowd of 1600 fans at the Queensland State Hockey Centre our teams put the rest of the competition on notice as our women’s team brilliantly led by Mariah Williams defeated the Blaze 3-1, whilst our men’s team opened a 2-0 lead after just 34 seconds of play before storming to victory with a convincing 7-3 win. Goalkeeper Ash Thomas was in scintillating form denying Blaze numerous opportunities and earnt himself Player of the Match bragging rights.
This weekend’s Round 3 games sees NSW Pride take on Hockey Club Melbourne at the State Hockey Centre, Sydney Olympic Park on Sunday 22 October with the women’s match kicking off at 1:30pm followed by the men’s at 3pm. In what promises to be two enthralling contests Hockey Club Melbourne women’s team will be chock full of confidence following its win over Adelaide Fire whilst its men’s team will be smarting after its shock loss to the Fire who snared its inaugural victory since the inception of the Hockey One competition in 2019.
This week our round celebrates the NSW Hockey Community and with plenty of off-field activities and fun including live music, player signings, our mascot Roary, face painting, food trucks, hockey clinics and much more it’s a great opportunity for our hockey clubs, associations, friends and family to enjoy a fun day out supporting our teams.
