Six stars to lead Thundersticks

Six of Western Australia’s most experienced men’s hockey heroes, led by Kookaburras captain Aran Zalewski, have been named in the Perth Thundersticks leadership group ahead of their Sultana Bran Hockey One League campaign which commences tomorrow.

Kookaburras Zalewski, Jake Harvie and Tom Wickham will be joined by former Australian representatives Tyler Lovell and Chris Bausor and Melville premiership captain Tim Geers in the leadership group for the Thundersticks’ men’s side.

Zalewski said he was excited to be captain of the Thundersticks in 2022, particularly after the competition’s multi-year hiatus.“I’m thrilled to be able to lead such a strong Thundersticks group in this year’s Hockey One season,” Zalewski said.“I’m very excited to get underway. There’s been a five- to six-week build-up and we’re just raring to hit the field here in Perth and show the fans what we have to offer.”

Zalewski said he was particularly excited about once again representing his state.“Obviously there’s been almost a three-year period without Hockey One, so it’s a fantastic challenge to start with a fresh slate and lead a group full of exciting youth and strong experience across the board.,” he said.“I take great pride in any team I represent but to be able to wear the colours that represent the state in which I’ve grown up in and represented since a young age is really special.”

The Thundersticks kick off their 2022 campaign against the Adelaide Fire on Saturday 1 October at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University.
