The JDH Hockey One League begins this weekend

Hockeyroos and Kookaburras stars together with Australia’s best emerging talent and world class imports are ready to put on a show on hockey pitches across the country when the JDH Hockey One League 2023 Season gets underway this Friday night.

More than 80 current or former Australian hockey team representatives are spread across the rosters of the seven JDH Hockey One League franchises, in addition to over 20 players who have represented 10 nations across the world.

The seven rounds of the 2023 Season will feature double-headers (featuring a men’s and women’s match) on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, culminating in the Finals Main Event in Canberra on 25/26 November.

The Tassie Tigers and HC Melbourne open the season this Friday night in Hobart. NSW Pride – defending champions in both the women’s and men’s competitions – have a bye in Round 1 before opening their campaign against Brisbane Blaze.

Adding to the intrigue and significance of this season is players pushing to stake their claim for Hockeyroos and Kookaburras selection in 2024, which includes competing at the Paris Olympic Games.

JDH Hockey One League Executive Manager Sash Herceg said the interest and build up to Season 3 indicated that attendances and broadcast figures would increase again on last year.

“Having been stalled by the pandemic after our first year, it’s fantastic to have the JDH Hockey One League contested in back-to-back seasons for the first time,” said Herceg.

“We know from the experience in 2019 that every match leading into the Olympic selection cycle can produce phenomenal performances and we’re expecting this season to be the highest quality we’ve seen yet.

“There are more than 100 players spread across the 14 player rosters who are currently playing international hockey or have represented their country in the past, which few other competitions around the globe could rival.

“I encourage hockey and sports fans alike to go and see some of the world’s best hockey players in action with the games taking place on pitches across the country.”
