HC MELBOURNE v ADELAIDE FIRE
Friday, 6.30pm AEDT (Women) 8.15pm AEDT (Men)
State Netball and Hockey Centre, Melbourne
HC Melbourne play at home for the first time since lifting the 2024 men’s title, and the night will carry extra meaning as Kookaburra Liam Henderson is joined in the line up by younger brother Josh for the first time. Josh’s inclusion is part of three changes, with title winners Jono Bretherton and Cooper Burns returning, the latter from a broken thumb that also kept him out of the Oceania Cup. The champions are fresh from a 5-2 comeback win in Hobart, where Nye Roberts’ brace doubled his 2024 season tally. For the Fire, 2024 leading scorer Landon Morley again leads the line. The match also carries added intrigue as former Fire goalkeeper and current Kookaburras number one Jed Snowden faces the side where he made his name, with Leon Hayward — the former Kookaburras and Black Sticks keeper — now anchoring the Fire.
In the women’s action, New Zealand internationals Hannah Gravenall and Hannah Cotter combined for all four goals in their 4-3 comeback win in round one and will again be central to HC Melbourne’s attack. Meanwhile, Adelaide Fire finally launch their campaign after the Round One bye, with a new look squad featuring six debutants. Former Hockeyroo Laura Barden faces her old side in her Fire debut, joining established internationals Greta Hayes and Aleisha Power. They link up with fellow Hockeyroos Hattie Shand and Lucy Sharman, plus returning internationals Margot van Geffen, Katie Sharkey and Britt Wang. Former Hockeyroos striker Miki Spano also adds firepower to the squad.

NSW PRIDE v TASSIE TIGERS
Saturday, 2.30pm AEDT (Men) 4.15pm AEDT (Women)
Narellan Hockey Centre, Sydney
NSW Pride return home after a dominant Round One win over Canberra Chill, making just one change with 2024 captain Nathanael Stewart back in the men’s squad. He joins Blake Govers, Jack Hayes, Nathan Czinner, Dylan Martin and Ash Thomas in a formidable spine. The men’s clash will test Tassie, who have never beaten NSW Pride away from home since the Hockey One League launched in 2019. Their closest effort came in 2023, when they pushed the Pride to a shootout in Sydney before falling 5-4. The Beltz brothers and Jack Welch will again lead the Tigers’ charge as they chase history. Govers remains the headline act for NSW after scoring a ruthlessly efficient brace of set pieces last weekend and boasting one of the best scoring rates in world hockey.
In the women’s fixture, Tassie are forced into a reshuffle with Steph Kershaw sidelined. Tokyo and Paris Olympian Renee Taylor steps in for her Tigers debut, a full circle moment after making her national league debut with Tasmania in 2014 before launching her Hockeyroos career and winning titles with Brisbane. Taylor’s experience will be vital against a Pride midfield brimming with energy. NSW will again look to emerging star Makayla Jones, rated among the brightest young talents in the country, whose pace and direct running will test Tassie’s outside defenders. Abi Wilson and Grace Young add further spark, while Jane Claxton and international Kathryn Lane provide Tassie with steel and experience.

PERTH THUNDERSTICKS v CANBERRA CHILL
Sunday, 2.30pm AWST (Men) 4.15pm AWST (Women)
Perth Hockey Stadium, Perth
Perth Thundersticks host their first doubleheader after a luckless Round One in Brisbane. Brodee Foster returns to bolster the forward line, while James Collins and Jake Harvie were outstanding in Game One and will relish a more open contest at home. Canberra coach Seyi Onitiri has largely backed the same squad that fell to NSW, with Jamie Hawke the only inclusion. After scoring his first brace, James Jewell will again be a set piece threat alongside masked-defender James Day. With both sides chasing their first win, this looms as a virtual must win for top four hopes, as no team wants to start 0-2.
The women’s clash promises intrigue. Perth coach Steph Andrews will demand tighter counter control after being exposed at-times in Brisbane, with Amy Lawton and New Zealand striker Olivia Shannon key Chill weapons. Emerging star Georgie West is set for a mouth watering duel with Hockeyroos co captain Kaitlin Nobbs. Perth’s Lexie Pickering and Maddi Ratcliffe, both goalless in Round One, will be hungry to open their accounts in front of home fans.
