How to get around Sultana Bran Hockey One – Semi Finals

It’s finals time in the Sultana Bran Hockey One League! Here are all the ways to make sure you don’t miss any of the action.

After seven rounds and 42 matches, the final four have been decided across the men’s and women’s competitions. A place in the inaugural Sultana Bran Hockey One League Grand Final and the chance to be crowned the first champions is on offer this weekend.

It starts with the men’s first semi-final between NSW Pride and Hockey Club Melbourne. The Pride have been unstoppable this season, winning all six matches and conceding only five goals. Last time these two sides met in Round 5 the Pride were simply too strong, scoring in every quarter to win 6-1 in Sydney. The odds are stacked against the men from Melbourne but anything can happen come finals time.

The action then moves north where Brisbane Blaze will host a double-header semi-final after both of their teams finished in the top two. The women’s match sees the Blaze take on Adelaide Fire, who were winners in a dramatic shootout in the final round against HC Melbourne. Brisbane took the five points when the two sides played in Round 3, winning 4-2.

After the women’s match, the men take centre stage as the Blaze come up against the Tassie Tigers. Tassie finished the season strongly winning their last three games, but their last defeat was a 7-0 rout at Brisbane in Round 4. The home team are coming off their first loss of the season and will be keen to put things right, and with a grand final berth on the line it promises to be a cracker.

The semi final weekend wraps up on Sunday with the women’s semi-final between HC Melbourne and Canberra Chill at Melbourne’s State Netball and Hockey Centre. HC Melbourne were within touching distance of an undefeated season but lost to Adelaide Fire in a shootout in the final round. The Chill had the bye in Round 7 and scraped into the finals courtesy of the Tassie Tigers’ shock defeat of the Perth Thundersticks. They will be looking to make the most of the opportunity and their good fortune against the team that beat them 2-0 when they met back in Round 4.
