It’s the penultimate round of the Sultana Bran Hockey One League so don’t miss a minute of the action.
With top-four spots still up for grabs across both the men’s and women’s competitions, many of this weekend’s matches will be high-stakes contests.
Round 6 begins with Adelaide Fire playing host to Canberra Chill on Saturday. The opening women’s match is a must-win for both teams fighting for the same spot. A win for Canberra will guarantee them a spot in the finals, while an Adelaide victory will keep the Chill sweating during their Round 7 bye and banking on results to go their way.
In the men’s match, it’s sixth against seventh, and while neither team will feature in the finals, avoiding the wooden spoon will provide plenty of motivation.
We then head west where Perth Thundersticks host NSW Pride. In the men’s match, the visitors are aiming for their fifth straight win to try and set up a final round battle royal with the other undefeated side, Brisbane Blaze. The Thundersticks men are competing with HC Melbourne and Tassie Tigers for third and fourth, a win crucial to their finals hopes.
The women’s match follows, with Perth knocking on the door of the top four while the Pride, though not mathematically out of contention, are in need of some seriously good fortune to sneak into the four.
Then on Sunday, it’s the ‘Battle of Bass Strait’ between the Tassie Tigers and HC Melbourne in the Apple Isle. A mouth-watering contest between the men’s teams is up first, with both teams currently level on wins, points and goal difference. Whoever wins will gain a serious boost to their finals chances while pushing the other back down the table. Finally, the women face off in a top against bottom clash, the undefeated visitors against the winless hosts. HC Melbourne Women’s Team have been brilliant so far but could Tassie cause the upset of the season?
Don’t miss any of the action, the Sultana Bran Hockey One League is getting towards the business end!
