Brisbane Blaze vs NSW Pride
Friday, 6:30pm AEST (Women) 8:15pm AEST (Men)
Queensland State Hockey Centre, Morningside
This is a State of Origin clash with teeth. Brisbane Blaze women were ambushed last weekend by a fast-starting Canberra Chill and will be burning for redemption. The Fitzpatrick sisters — Madison, Savannah, and Kendra — reunite in a formidable trio, joined by the Mathison and Dolkens sisters in a rare family-powered lineup. NSW Pride, fresh off a clinical 3–0 win over HC Melbourne, are surging. Grace Stewart has broken her scoring drought while Grace Young and Alana Kavanagh continue to drive their attacking play. Expect speed, skill, and a finals-like atmosphere in Brisbane.
NSW Pride men flipped the script last week, overcoming a statistical disadvantage to topple defending champs HC Melbourne. Blake Govers is in vintage form having scored eight goals in the opening three rounds, and despite missing defensive anchor Dylan Martin, the Pride are building cohesion and looking like their fierce sides of old. Brisbane are still without key figures Jacob Anderson, Lachie Sharp, Corey Weyer, and Tim Howard — all due back in Australia from next round. That leaves this match as a proving ground for fringe Blaze players. The goalkeeper duel will also be one to watch: Kookaburra Ash Thomas faces off against Mitch Nicholson, fresh off a Team of the Week nod. The comparisons will be inevitable and their performances telling in the final result

Tassie Tigers vs Adelaide Fire
Saturday, 2:30pm AEDT (Men) 4:15pm AEDT (Women)
Aurora Energy Tasmanian Hockey Centre, New Town
Former Hockeyroos captain Jane Claxton will run out in Hobart to face her old side, an Adelaide Fire outfit that’s blazing up the ladder. With just half their matches played, a win here would all but seal a finals berth for the Fire. Georgina Dowd is in unstoppable form, netting back-to-back hat-tricks, while Breana Catley and Brit Wang have continued to shine in support of Greta Hayes and Lucy Sharman. The Tigers welcome back midfield maestro Steph Kershaw, returning from a hamstring complaint to power their attacking arsenal. Philly Bridley, fresh off a career-best three-goal performance, will also be key to Tassie’s hopes of earning their first points. While currently occupying different ends of the ladder, expect a fierce contest under southern skies.
The Tigers are refreshed after a bye and ready to unleash Burras goalkeeper Magnus McCausland and debutant Oscar Sproule to the squad that secured that incredible come-from-behind victory against NSW Pride in Narellan. Adelaide Fire bring counterattack threats in Lucas Toonen and last year’s top scorer Landon Morley, while Leon Hayward returns to Hobart — this time in Fire colours after a stint with the Tigers in 2024. Last season, Tassie needed a masterclass from Eddie Ockenden to claw back against Adelaide. This time, they’ll aim to control possession and dictate tempo. With youth, experience, and tactical intrigue in play, this one promises fireworks and plenty of goals.

Perth Thundersticks vs HC Melbourne
Sunday, 2:30pm AWST (Women) 4:15pm AWST (Men)
Perth Hockey Stadium, Bentley
It’s now-or-never for both women’s sides. Perth are winless and need their star-studded forward line of Madi Ratcliffe, Lexie Pickering, and Courtney Schonell to finally click. Hockeyroo Penny Squibb returns to shore up the defence, but questions linger: was last year’s success built solely on Dutch import Eva Drummond? HC Melbourne are swinging the selection axe again, with Kristina Bates recalled and Ash Utri dropped. Sammy Love shifts into the striker line as coach Greg Drake searches for chemistry. A draw helps no one, so expect desperation and drama late-on.
Two of Australia’s biggest names return in a blockbuster twist at the home of Australian hockey. HC Melbourne men welcome back star Nathan Ephraums, while Perth unleash Cam Geddes for the first time this season after his Oceania Cup heroics for the Kookaburras, where he was a creative midfield machine. An upset win for Perth would reignite their campaign; another loss for Melbourne would spark serious doubts about their title defence. Kookaburra Ky Willott will be out to redeem himself for HC Melbourne after a rough outing in Newcastle last weekend, but he’ll need to first overcome in form Perth defender Tom Harvie. With reputations on the line, this clash could be season-defining.

Canberra Chill – Round Four Bye
The Canberra Chill get a mid-season bye ahead of next week’s trip to Adelaide to take on the Fire where they will be looking to build momentum in the lead up to the finals. After a close 1-0 win for the women at home last round, they sit third in the competition, while a 3-7 loss for the men sees them positioned fourth on the men’s ladder.
