All eyes will turn to the nation’s capital on 25-26 November as the crème de la crème of Australian hockey battle it out in Canberra in the Hockey One League 2023 Finals Main Event.
Canberra’s National Hockey Centre will host the game’s biggest and best hockey stars as the top four women’s and men’s Hockey One League teams at the end of the regular season feature in the showpiece event.
Memberships for all seven franchises and match tickets are on sale now through Intix.
The announcement comes exactly a month out from the opening night of the highly anticipated third season, which will again feature the majority of Hockeyroos and Kookaburras stars together with an array of exciting and aspiring talent pushing for national selection.
Featuring seven franchises from across Australia, hockey’s faster, brighter and highly entertaining national league has attracted some world class international talent for the upcoming season, headlined by Indian superstar Rupinder Pal Singh who will play for the Canberra Chill.
Hockey One League Executive Manager Sash Herceg said confirming the location of the Finals Main Event brings added excitement as the month to go countdown starts.
“To have the four best women’s and men’s teams at the end of the regular season assemble in Canberra to determine the 2023 Hockey One League Champions is a huge coup for a city and a region that has proven its love for elite sporting events,” said Herceg.
“Hockey One is the only national League where women and men’s teams play in the same fixture so when fans buy a ticket they have access to see both.”
“This is also a huge opportunity to see tomorrow’s Olympians on local pitches across Australia, now that the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras have qualified for Paris 2024.”
“We are delighted the finals will be played at the National Hockey Centre and thank Hockey ACT for their support in making it happen.”
“Tickets for the Hockey One Finals Main Event are sure to be some of the hottest in town so we look forward to having an amazing atmosphere across the two days.”
Rob Sheekey, Hockey ACT CEO said: “We are delighted with the opportunity to be able help create Hockey One history and showcase our facilities on such a grand scale.”
“The added incentive for our Canberra Chill teams to play finals in front of a home crowd, if they make it, will hopefully give the players something extra to play for. We can’t wait show everyone what hockey looks like in Canberra.”
Last year’s Finals Main Event was held in the Victorian city of Bendigo. NSW Pride are the defending Hockey One League Men’s and Women’s Champions.
