Hockey One enjoys record crowds – Can we beat it this week?

It has been a terrific start to the 2023 JDH Hockey One season with bumper crowds attending matches across the country and enjoying some thrilling hockey action. Last weekend our NSW Pride men’s and women’s team journeyed to the nation’s capital to take on Canberra Chill in front of a parochial crowd of over 2,000 territorians. This attendance figure surpassed the Brisbane Blaze versus NSW Pride number of 1,700 only a few short weeks ago.

As we enter Round 5 NSW Pride will take on Tassie Tigers at home in a night fixture at the Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre commencing at 6:30pm.

This week we celebrate Pride in Pride Round as we highlight and recognize the inclusive and welcoming nature of our sport for all and in particular the LGBTQI+ community. The game will be supported by Pride in Sport Australia and our very own Bentstix Hockey Club. NSW Pride’s Greta Hayes who is a Pride in Sport Ambassador will be actively promoting this fixture and will be supported by her male and female teammates. There will be plenty of fun to be had by all on a Saturday night of activities including a Hookin2Hockey clinic at 5:30pm, face painting, Hockey activities, giveaways, player signing opportunities, live music, merchandise sales, and of course the normal antics of our favorite mascot Roary!

It’s an important game for our women’s team with only three rounds remaining before the finals. Having suffered consecutive losses at the hands of Hockey Club Melbourne and Canberra Chill our team will be fiercely determined to make amends and challenge for a finals birth.

Meanwhile our men’s team are in scintillating form undefeated after three consecutive victories and will be keen to maintain the momentum this week. It was great to see debutants Ryan Woolnough and Josh Gregory perform so well last week and together with another Man-of-the-Match performance from goalkeeper Ash Thomas, Brent Livermore’s charges are sure to impress again this week.
