Eva Drummond touches down in Perth

As the Hockey One season draws closer, international import Eva Drummond says it is a dream come true to play in Australia.

The Dutch hockey legend touched down in Perth last Friday, four months after she was announced as the Perth Thundersticks’ first international import.

Drummond said she was very excited to join the Perth Thundersticks in their continuing preparations for the 2024 Hockey One season.

“I can’t believe it actually,” she said.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to play overseas for a different team.

“It took me a few years because playing for the Dutch national team, we couldn’t really do both, but I think I’m finally there.

“My mother is Australian so it’s very cool to be here and be part of this, I can’t wait to get started.”

Despite being very far from home, Drummond said she already feels at home in Perth.

“It’s a very nice feeling to be welcomed like that and to have a feeling that even though you are far away from home, you can still sort of create a home very quickly,” she said.

“I have been meeting lots of new people and everyone has been very sweet, and the weather has been amazing so far so I’m very happy to be here.

“I’ve also chatted to a lot of friends that have been to Perth because I haven’t been before, and they’ve said it is amazing and incredible and I think from the few days I’ve been here; I agree with them.”

In her whirlwind arrival to Australia, Drummond also experienced the WA hockey scene at its best, coming down to Perth Hockey Stadium for the Hockey WA Grand Final Day and watch some of her new teammates compete.

“It was incredible to see that,” she said.

“I didn’t really know what to expect but to experience the crowds and the atmosphere at Perth Hockey Stadium was very cool and I hope it will be like that when we start playing too.”
