The Brisbane Blaze are proud to announce their men’s and women’s squads for the 2026 Hockey One season, with international firepower, returning stars, and exciting new faces headline an outstanding year ahead for the club.
With the countdown on to another huge Hockey One campaign, the 2026 Brisbane Blaze squads reflect the strength of Queensland hockey combining elite performers, emerging young talent and players ready to make their mark in the Blaze orange.
A major talking point for the men’s program is the return of Shane Kenny, with the former Blaze player coming out of retirement to rejoin the squad for 2026 in a terrific boost for the team.
The Blaze men also welcome back a strong contingent of international representatives, with Jayden Atkinson, Tim Howard, Joel Rintala and Lachi Sharp returning to Brisbane following their recent FIH Hockey World Cup campaign with the Kookaburras. They are joined by Scott Boyde, who also returns after representing New Zealand on the world stage.
Adding to the excitement, the men’s squad features a number of fresh faces, including players who will be hoping to earn their Brisbane Blaze debut this season. Among them is Cody Hale, who has already made an impression as one of the first male players to represent Queensland at both Under 18 and Under 21 level in the same year, while also positioning himself for a potential Blaze debut.
Another exciting inclusion is Lucas Toonen, who has made the move to Queensland this year after previously being part of the Adelaide Fire program and is now in line to debut for the Blaze in 2026.
On the women’s side, there is no shortage of star power and storylines, with Stephanie Kershaw returning home to the Brisbane Blaze after spending the 2025 season with the Tassie Tigers. Fresh off an outstanding FIH Hockey World Cup campaign, Kershaw’s return is a significant boost for the squad, bringing elite experience, composure and class back into the Blaze line-up.
Morgan Mathison and Tatum Stewart also return to the lineup after their FIH Hockey World Cup campaign with the Hockeyroos.
The Blaze are also thrilled to welcome Sara Strauss as the club’s first-ever international import. After competing for Germany at the recent FIH Hockey World Cup, Strauss joins Brisbane for the 2026 season and is set to add a dynamic attacking edge to the striker line. Her selection marks an exciting milestone for the club and further strengthens an already impressive women’s squad.
Another welcome return is Rosie Malone, who is back in the Brisbane Blaze line-up for 2026 after a demanding 12 months of rehabilitation following ACL surgery. A dangerous attacking player, Malone’s return adds enormous quality and spark to the squad.
The women’s squad also includes five new squad members who will be hoping to make their Blaze debut this season, underlining the depth of emerging talent coming through Queensland hockey. One of the new squad members,17 year old Rory Kovacevich, will make her debut after a year where she won both the Australian U18 and Australian U21 National titles with Queensland State Teams.
Across both programs, the 2026 squads showcase the Blaze’s ambition to be a major force in Hockey One once again.
