Blaze light up State Hockey Centre for first home round against Tassie Tigers

A sea of orange set the scene for both Blaze teams to light up the State Hockey Centre on Friday night. After 3 away rounds, the Blaze were itching to play in front of a home crowd for their first home game for the Sultan Bran Hockey One League.

The Blaze women’s team came out firing, with Ruby Harris scoring a field goal in the 8th minute. Striker Britt Wilkinson scored a field goal and conversion, taking the score to 3-0 at quarter time.

A penalty corner from Ash Fey and field goal from Britt Wilkinson in quick succession in the third secured the Blaze women’s win 5-0.

The Blaze men turned up the heat in their game with Daniel Beale scoring in the first minute, setting the pace for the game and ensuring the Tassie Tigers couldn’t keep up. Joel Rintala and Corey Weyer smashed in a penalty corner each in the second, taking the score to 3-0 at the half.

Dylan Wotherspoon scored two field goals and both conversions in quick succession securing the Blaze’s convincing 7-0 win.

Both teams then looked forward to the second game on Sunday against the Perth Thundersticks, as part of the double-header weekend.
